This year\u2019s motto of \u201cFunction-integrative lightweight engineering in multi-material design\u201d was first coined by the founder of the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) at TU Dresden in 1995, and has since been put into practice as the \u201cDresden Model\u201d. The model pursues a systemic approach which incorporates all conventional and novel materials, processes and economic-ecological circumstances \u2013 as well as interactions between them throughout the value chain. The Dresden Model has become a respected national and international benchmark for innovative lightweight engineering across all material and product classes. Lightweight engineering facilitates the load-conform transfer of optimized material properties to products in a way which significantly increases the added value of not only individual components, but also modules and entire systems. The resource efficiency and product marketability of a complex system can be significantly improved if a wide variety of functions are consistently integrated into it throughout the value chain.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]\r\n<p align=\"justify\">The 17th International Dresden Lightweight Engineering Symposium will deal with the various elements of this system-based approach. The symposium will target the broadening of interdisciplinary knowledge transfer between science and industry \u2013 an event feature highly valued by attending decision-makers. Topics ranging from emerging trends and intelligent multi-material design to solutions tackling current and future challenges will be discussed, with opportunities for synergy underlined.\r\nEmphasizing resource efficiency, speakers from various sectors will use the symposium to present the latest material, technological and product developments.
